It has been 15 years now as an educator and as experience increases, so does the awareness of my practice and what is actually happening in my learning environment.
The secondary school Music classroom is a unique setting in that all aspects of the art such as music literacy, music performance and music composition are nurtured and developed in a positive and engaging environment. Practicing, rehearsing, planning and perfecting - the whole process of learning a song or piece to be performed in front of an audience is the focus of my inquiry this year as I delve in the pedagogies and research out there on Music Practice and prepare strategies that will motivate and maintain student focus towards achieving the goal of the 'perfect' performance.
I am currently reading 'Musician's way' by Gerald Klickstein as it offers a holistic view of the life of an active musician. Will share new learnings as I progress through the book and the year.
